SERBIA - National review, No 81
Prologue
There was no break or two waves. Only one, still inconceivable. Even today, we don’t really know more about the virus and the pandemic than we did in the beginning. Either what behind this is, who manages it, what the ultimate goals and consequences are. Even deaths are unreliable. Pre-election posters on the lampposts were abruptly replaced by obituaries. The highest number of victims is among those who believed the most in the announced May victory. Victories are still coming, but we look more and more as if we are being eaten inside by some unknown tapeworm. We desperately need therapy with meaning and light. That is why we have a new issue of National Review in front of us. <

ABOUT SERBIAN SPA RESORTS, JAM-PACKED THIS SUMMER
Healing for All Times
We have never forgotten or abandoned them, in good times, and especially not in times of health troubles. But the epidemic and the ban on traveling abroad forced us, this year, to get to know the values of Serbian spas in another way. As a reminder and proposal, we have singled out, for this occasion, ten of them from all parts of Serbia. Our source was the monograph ”Serbia under the Sun”, the capital edition of ”Princip Press”, from which we share the chapter on Serbian spas

IN THE RECONSTRUCTED RAM FORTRESS, ABOVE THE DANUBE AND CENTURIES
Legends Steadier than Stone
There, at the tripoint of Pannonia, Carpathian and Balkan mountains, Celts, ancient Serbs, Romans, Byzantines… made their fortifications. The last in the series were Ottomans under Bayezid II in 1483. At all times, there was a shrine within the walls, and ships and ferries docked below them. Caravanserais and openings for cannons go without saying. After its recent reconstruction, supported by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency and the Serbian state, this fortress has again become an inevitable spot on the Danube between Smederevo and Golubac

IN LELIĆ MONASTERY, NEAR VALJEVO, ENDOWMENT OF SAINT NICOLAS OF SERBIA
Where Faith Is Alive
Maybe in this world there is not a single village that has two large monasteries, two saints, three bishops. And Lelić has all that. The sanctuary on the plateau called Velimirovića Luka is the endowment of Bishop Nicholas and his father Dragomir. It was consecrated in 1929, and until 1996 it was a parish church, then the Kaone Metochion, and since 2001 an independent monastery. Since 1991, the relics of the holy bishop Nicolas of Serbia have rested in his endowment

”TOŠA JOVANOVIĆ” THEATER IN ZRENJANIN, THE OLDEST IN SERBIA, OBSERVED ITS 180TH ANNIVERSARY LAST YEAR
Theater Made of Love
Really. In order to receive consent from an actress dear to his heart to move to his city from Pest, an unnamed merchant from Bečkerek turned his grain warehouse into a baroque theater in 1839. According to chronicle writers, the theatrical life in Zrenjanin has been lasting ever since. In 1946, it became professional theater ”Toša Jovanović”, named after the Serbian acting legend. One of the stages was named after Todor Manojlović, also famous man from Zrenjanin. Today, you can still watch valuable theatrical plays from 56 boxes and 305 seats

Fate and Comments
APPROACHING THE 493rd ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF THE UNUSUAL SERBIAN KING JOVAN NENAD THE BLACK
Upright among the Ruins
Vladimir Ćorović calls him the most mysterious person of the Serbian past. No one knew for certain his origins and plans. ”He had something of a people’s soldier, something of a bandit adventurer, something of a conservative revolutionary.” He rose when everyone else fell, went to the battlefield when everyone else ran away. He defended the European homeland from both Turks and unworthy Europeans. He presented himself as a descendant of Serbian despots and Byzantine emperors. He founded Subotica as his capital. Today, his monument on the central square is one of the symbols of that city

KOSTA STOJANOVIĆ (1867–1921), FOUNDER OF MATHEMATICAL ECONOMICS AND PREDECESSOR OF CYBERNETICS IN SERBIA
Foundation of Honor and Knowledge
He studied with Mika Alas, continued his studies in Paris and Leipzig, and was succeeded at the Belgrade University by Milutin Milanković. He introduced the concept of entropy in economic analyses. He believed that social phenomena could be managed by thermodynamics and elaborated it in his study ”Interpretation of Physical and Social Phenomena”. He was minister in several Serbian governments and had a significant contribution in the restoration of economy. He sharply opposed corrupted political power players and harmful leaders. Thus, this man from Aleksinac is a role model for both his and our time

Old Masters
RANKO JOVOVIĆ, REBELLIOUS LYRICIST, ”THE LAST TEAR OF MARKO MILJANOV”
Aristocrat in an Age of Ungraciousness
He used books to build a fortress of language and lyrical flame, he created ethics from righteous rebellion and voluntary exile. He belonged to the brotherhood preferred by the divinity of poetry, not by the regime. He too was sentenced to closely watch the violent deserbianization of Montenegro, the delusional ”investigation of ancestors”, which only strengthened his opinion that shame is harder than death. He was proud of Belgrade, just like all genuine Bjelopavlići and Montenegrin Serbs. The grand processions in resurrected Montenegro were the dreamed funeral of his Serbian dust

BOŽIDAR MALJKOVIĆ, FAMOUS BASKETBALL COACH, NOW PRESIDENT OF THE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE OF SERBIA
Sport Is always Worth the Effort
He was on top of Europe four times with three clubs, and worked in six countries. Born in Lika, grew up in Kraljevo, matured as coach in Belgrade, led the Old Continent’s greatest clubs. As president of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, he confronted the same great challenges which the Serbian nation, as well as Serbian sports, has been going through. Recovery is possible, of course, but it must begin from the bottom. Our allies are honesty, patience, great efforts, knowledge and visionary boldness

CENTER OF EXCEPTIONAL VALUES FOR LEGUMES OF THE NOVI SAD INSTITUTE OF FIELD AND VEGETABLE CROPS
European Protein Strategy
These plants are the basic source of proteins of plant origin, oils and cellulose fibers for food for human and domestic animals. Legumes are also a biological source of nitrogen. In Europe, which is dependent on the import of vegetable protein, this has become especially important. In Serbia, legumes are grown on over 400,000 hectares. Legume seeds are exported to 24 countries, on three continents. Serbian science is also at the top of the world in this area
